​The 4-day workshop on 'Turbomachinery aerodynamics: design and optimization using CFD' will be focusing on advanced theoretical fundamentals of turbomachines with industrial practices using CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) and FEA (Finite Element Analysis) tools. The workshop will be full of practical hands-on industrial exposure together with interactive sessions with experts from industry and professors from IITs.

 A survey  by McKinsey Global Institute shows multinationals find only 25% of Indian engineers employable due to lack of specialized skills.” This workshop aims not only at enhancing skills that are needed by industry but also focusing on advanced tools that can be used in teaching and research at academic level,  and thus reducing the skill gap and increasing employability. Students, faculty and industry professionals will equally benefit from the workshop.

IIT Mandi is the only IIT located in Himalayas where scenic and beautiful places are bound to create a life-long endearing memories. What is the content

This is one-of-its-kind workshop which focuses on improving the skills of the participants in the field of Turbomachinery Aerodynamics using Computation Fluid Dynamics. The main highlights of the workshop will be:​

•  2D/3D CFD simulation and design of radial​

   turbomachines/fan/pumps.​​

•  Pressure drop characteristics in laminar​

   compressible micro convective flow useful for​

   design of turbine blades.​​

•  Sight-seeing and hydro-power plant visit.​

Design and Analysis competition

​
After training on advanced CAE of first day, design and analysis competition on an industrial problem will be conducted by GearedOx in association with Altair Engineering Inc. Under expert guidance, the participants would finish the project on final day.  The competition will be judged by industrial  experts and the 9 winners (3 in each category: student, faculty and industry professional) will be awarded prizes worth 5 Lakhs. All winners will get free 3 days extensive training by Altair experts in various fields of engineering with emphasis on simulation driven design as per industrial standards and best practices in domain such as CFD, FEA, NVH, crash analysis & safety, optimization, multiphysics, vehicle dynamics, durability etc. at a centrally located place, preferably at Delhi. After successfully finishing the training, the participant will be awarded certificate of "CAE Skilled Professional".​ ​

Why this workshop​​

India, similar to any other nation in this world needs 3 assets to make itself successful, viz., Financial Assets, Material Assets and Human Capital. Even though we have ample of land and material assets; the major challenge we face today is human resource development. We, at GearedOx believe in helping our nation to overcome this challenge. GearedOx is an educational start-up by students and faculty of IIT Mandi. Lack of proper human resource development opportunities is the major cause for poverty, unemployment, corruption and low productivity. It’s time when we should come together and make BRIDGES to compensate this human resource development GAP. This workshop aims at not only enhancing skills but also focusing on advanced tools that can be used in teaching and research at academic level as well​. We believe that interaction between academia and industry is a must for us to grow together in design and innovation.​
